Programs at Benzie Central Schools

Birth - Age 5       

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library- every registered child in Benzie County receives one book/month at home to create their own library and learn the joy and habit of reading.

1st Grade               

Reading is Fundamental – all classes in the district have a Rotarian read to them and each student receives his/her own book (three times a year)

3rd Grade              

Dictionary Give-away – every students in the district receives a dictionary

6th Grade              

Crystal Lake Walkabout – Rotarians assist students at this day-long, hands-on environmental learning experience at several different natural settings in the Crystal Lake watershed

7th Grade              

Service Above Self Day – students and Rotarians complete clean-up projects at various sites in the county

8th Grade              

Choices – Rotarians lead students through an interactive decision-making workshop that empowers teens to achieve academic success in pursuit of their career & life aspirations

9th Grade              

College Trip (MSU & GVSU) – Rotarians plan & chaperone with Benzie staff this day-long tour of campuses, with Benzie alumni serving as guides & speakers

10th Grade           

NMC tour & lunch – Rotarians join students at this event (STRIVE students also attend this event with mentors traveling with the students)

11th & 12th           

STRIVE (Students Taking Renewed Interest in the Value of Education) – Rotarians serve as mentor with 11th & 12th grade students at risk of graduating on time

11th & 12th           

Career Day – This collaborative program with the Benzie County Chamber of Commerce will gives students an opportunity to speak with people in careers of interest and also learn from those who hire what it takes to get an interview and keep a job
